Pregnancy and birth is a time to celebrate new life and reflect upon the creation of your family. Belly casting is the perfect way to document this short period of time in your journey into motherhood. Your belly casting session is designed to create a three dimensional piece of artwork that will be used as a prop, during your son or daughter’s newborn session. It truly is an amazing experience to witness how your baby fits inside the belly cast, just as they were in your womb.
When: Your belly casting will be scheduled around 32-36 weeks and is done in the comfort of your home. Stavish Stills Photography will bring all of the necessary materials to create the cast, including plaster gauze strips. Details: Please wear an old pair of shorts or pants and a sports bra for your casting session. The plaster will likely get on your clothing and may stain clothing. If you want a fully torso cast, you will not need to wear a sports bra. We will set up the casting area in your kitchen, placing a large drop cloth underneath your chair. At the start of your session, we will apply vaseline on your belly. This will allow us to easily remove the cast, once your belly is covered in plaster. During your casting we will have you relax in a chair, occasionally standing to make sure we cast the bottom of your bump. The casting generally takes less than thirty minutes to complete. Once your cast is complete, we will gently remove it from your belly. We will then clean up the mess we created.
After: At the completion of your belly casting session, we take the cast with us, where we carefully sand it to ensure it is smooth and ready for your newborn session. Then we anxiously wait for your to deliver your sweet baby, so we can capture these sweet, tiny lips and feet, snuggled in your belly cast.
